"You do not have sufficient permissions to modify the Serial Number"

The message "You do not have sufficient permissions to modify the Serial Number" indicates the need to launch the software with elevated administrative privileges the first time. After that, you should be able to start the software normally by double-clicking on the desktop launcher shortcut, or on a business plan file.

Take the following steps to run the software as the local administrator account:

  1. Verify that "Hide File Extensions" is turned off in Windows. This allows you to see the 3-letter filename extensions after the period at the end of each filename (show me).
    1. Open up "Computer" (in Windows Vista) or "My Computer" (in Windows XP).
    2. If you have Windows Vista, press and release the Alt key on the keyboard once (to make the "File, Edit, View, Tools, Help" menu choices appear). In Windows XP, skip to Step C.
    3. Click "Tools-->Folder Options".
    4. Click the "View" tab.
    5. Make sure there is no check mark in "Hide filename extensions for known file types".
    6. Click "OK".
  2. Run the Program Launcher file as Administrator:
    • Windows XP machines:
      1. Browse to the following folder on the hard drive of your computer:
        • C:\Program Files\Business Plan Pro\bppenu11
      2. Right click on the file PAS.bppenu11.exe and choose "Run as..."
      3. Choose "Other User" from the menu provided.
      4. Enter the user name of Administrator and the administrator accounts password.
    • Windows Vista or Windows 7 machines:
      1. Browse to the following folder on the hard drive of your computer
        • In 32-bit versions:
          C:\Program Files\Business Plan Pro\bppenu11
        • In 64-bit versions:
          C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Plan Pro\bppenu11
      2. Right click on the file PAS.bppenu11.exe.
      3. Choose "Run as Administrator" from the right-click menu.
      4. When prompted, enter the serial number and the software will accept it.

The steps above will launch the software as the default, or "local Administrator", user of the computer. This should help you to determine if the problem is specific to your particular user account in Windows or not.
