Changing Chart Sizes

You can reduce the length of the row labels or reduce the number of line items in the related table.

You can also reduce the size of the font which is being used to generate the legend for the chart by taking the following steps:

1. Click the Custom Format button from the tool bar at the top of the Chart.
2. Double-click on the Legend in the display of the chart to launch the Chart Designer with the Legend selected.
3. Select the Font tab in the Chart Designer and take the following steps:
   1. Change the font from Arial to Arial Narrow.
   2. Manually reduce the Font Size from 9 to a smaller number by typing it into the box.
4. Click the Apply and then OK buttons to save these changes.

Either of these steps will have the desired effect of decreasing the overall size of the legend allowing for more room to print the chart image.

Another alternative, if your problem is caused by long row labels or too many rows, is to change the position of the chart label, from side to top or bottom, or vice versa.

1. Click the Custom Format button from the tool bar at the top of the Chart.
2. Double-click on the Legend in the display of the chart to launch the Chart Designer with the Legend selected.
3. In the Location area, click to select a new location for your Legend.
4. Click the Apply and then OK buttons to save these changes.

You can remove the legend altogether, if you need to.

1. Click the Custom Format button from the tool bar at the top of the Chart.
2. Save an image of the current Legend:
   1. Right-click on the chart Legend and choose Save As..
   2. Change the File Name to Legend and the Save as type to JPG
   3. Save the image in your My Documents folder.
3. Double-click on the Legend in the display of the chart to launch the Chart Designer with the Legend selected.
4. Uncheck the Visible box in the Chart Designer to disable the Chart Legend.
5. Click the Apply and then OK buttons to save these changes.
6. Insert a topic into the Plan Outline to contain the image of the Chart Legend which was saved in Step #2. This topic should be placed just before or just after the chart in question.
7. Once the topic has been inserted, right click in the text area and choose Insert and then select Image. Then navigate to and select the image saved in Step #2.
